  • Bioproduction of useful compounds using liverworts

    <Aim> Production of the useful compounds which most crops and plants are not able to synthesize, by the transgenic liverworts into which useful genes are introduced.
    <Abstract> Liverwort produces useful compounds which most crops are not able to synthesize. Therefore, liverwort is valuable resources of new genes. We search useful genes from the liverworts and analyzed functions of these genes. We also make the transgenic plants including the liverworts into which useful genes are introduced. So far, we successfully have developed the system using the transgenic liverworts producing the pharmaceutical products.

    Patent application 2011-153946 ‘Method to produce eicosapentaenoic acids by the liverworts.’
    Patent application 2011-40304 ‘The cyclooxygenase gene from Gracilaria vermiculophylla and method to produce prostaglandins using this gene.’
